Message from the President
This year we selected a theme that was also used during our Leadership Training seminar—“Blazing the Trail to Success”. I felt this theme was appropriate because of the many changes and challenges ahead of us as a Chapter. These are some of our goals for the coming year:
- Internal changes in procedures and policies designed to make the Chapter stronger and more efficiently run
- Exploring new types of programs, seminars and events that will appeal to a greater number of our members, and striving to make our existing programs more stimulating and rewarding
- Evaluating new venues that are conveniently located to the most members and that provide the best features and services appropriate to our needs
- Expanding opportunities for networking, participation and member services
- Advancing RIM awareness by reaching out to the communities we serve and by involving members of related professional organizations in our activities
During the 2008-09 Chapter year, our officers, committee members and volunteers accomplished some outstanding work. Some of the highlights were:
· An outstanding lineup of technical programs focusing on an array of topics such as electronic records management, preservation, microfilm, GIS records and litigation that served to educate, enlighten and entertain our members during the year.
· A highly informative all-day seminar "Records Management Fundamentals for Small and Medium Business and Government Enterprises”.
· A wonderfully festive Joint Holiday Luncheon with Fort Worth Chapter, held at the Great Wolf Lodge, with magical and motivational entertainment by David Hira, a Toys for Tots toy drive and a silent auction and raffle benefiting the Dallas Homeless Metro Alliance.
· A first-class community service project to set up a filing system for the volunteer files of the Bridge,
· Additional community service projects, including a food drive for the North Texas Food Bank, a diaper drive for Alley’s House, a children’s book drive for Scottish Rite Hospital and personal care packages for the Airborne Angels, befitting our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
· RIM awareness was advanced with a Shred Day at our April Chapter meeting.
· A successful Annual Golf Tournament held at Tour 18 Dallas, which raised $4,000 for the chapter and its charitable programs.
· CRM study sessions conducted by local Certified Records Managers.
· Several internal housekeeping issues, including much-needed Bylaws revisions and stabilization of the Chapter website.
· Six issues of our award-winning newsletter “For the Record” which will compete to be Newsletter of the Year for a second year.
Many thanks to all of the volunteers and committee members who worked to make these events successful. Special appreciation goes to our sponsors, without whose support many of these programs would not be possible.
Let’s work together to make the coming year the best one ever!
